Bikes

When I was in high school I had a 10-speed bike that I used to ride everywhere.  In the summer of 1983, when I was in my twenties, I moved back to Victoria, B.C. and bought myself a new 10-speed.  That was  in July and I rode it all over the city that summer and fall.  I was, to say the least, in great shape.

The downside was that at the time I lived in Gordon Head in Victoria and my office was downtown on Douglas Street, and that was quite a long ride.  I only rode my bike to work a couple of times.  On weekends, however, I'd leave Gordon Head and ride for hours, blue Sony Walkman hooked onto me.

(Did I mention I was in great shape that summer??  ;-) )

In the 1990s I bought a bike and I must say it certainly wasn't the most comfortable bike I've ever owned.  In the world of bikes, there's nothing worse than a bike that doesn't fit properly, or one that is just unpleasant to ride.  It never enticed me to take it out for more than a quick spin.

Today, I'm long past the days of 10-speeds, nor would I want to ride one any more.  These days I like the ladies' cruiser bikes where the crank is deliberately set further to the front of the bike.  It's a different type of bike, that's all, but is very comfortable to ride.

If you look at the Electra Bike website HERE (a very cool site!) you'll see many varieties of these sorts of bikes.  Here are three of my favourites, all very retro...

Amsterdam Original 3i in Cream
3 speed

Amsterdam Royal 8i in Pearl White
8 speed

Amsterdam Classic in Forest Metallic
